That is a moving poem, giving voice to a particular soldier long ago. You catch the voice of a young man from a village of the age, and I’m full of admiration for the way you unfold his words in those assured lines of verse. Magnificent!
Thank you, John. I read this piece as part of an event in aid of the British Red Cross on Sunday. It was well received. it is often the stories of the ‘little’ people that tug most at the heart. I see you are located in the south east, my own home territory, I was born and brought up in Avely, near Grans in Essex.
